Every one of you (people) is a shepherd. And everyone is responsible for whatever falls under his responsibility. A man is like a shepherd of his own family, and he is responsible for them. BUKHARI

4 – Protecting with Al-Mauzatain

Al-Mauzatain (المعوذتان:) An Arabic term meaning ‘The Verses Of Refuge‘ comprised of two Surahs, Surah Falaq and Surah Nas, together these surahs are very powerful. Ibn Al Qayyam has highlighted the power of these Surahs, he said: “The effectiveness of these surahs is great to repel magic, evil eye, and the rest of the evils and the need for a slave to seek Allah’s protection from these two surahs is greater than his need for self, eating, drinking, and wearing a dress”

Aisha RA has narrated:

When the Prophet ﷺ went to bed every night, he would hold his hands together and blow into them and recite into them Qul Huwa Allah Ahad, Qul a’oodhu bi Rabb il-falaq and Qul a’oodhu bi Rabb in-nas. Then he would wipe them over whatever he could of his body, starting with his head and face and the front of his body, and he would do that three times. BUKHARI

3 – Protect Your Kids with Ayat-ul-Kursi

Ayatul Kursi, another very important set of verses found in Surah Baqarah. Try to incoporate this in the dhikr at night and blow over your child, till he has learned himself. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

When you go to your bed, recite Ayatul Kursi for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn. MUSLIM

Keeping children inside at the time of Maghrib is not a myth or an old wives tale. The Prophet ﷺ recommended not allowing children out near the time of Maghrib,

When night falls, keep your children indoors, for the devils are out and about at this time. When an hour of the night goes by, you can let them go. BUKHARI

It means after an hour of darkness has passed then children should be allowed to go outside. The Shayateen spread out at this time and hang on to anything they can and since children can’t make dhikr on their own they become vulnerable, so it is better to keep them inside as mentioned in the Sunnah.

2 – Dua for Protection of Kids in the Bathroom

Etiquettes of the bathroom, another forgotten Sunnah. A bathroom is a place of filth and najasah and Jinn are attracted to such places. Our Prophet ﷺ taught us the way to go to the bathroom, to avoid being harmed by them. It is important children know these ways from an early age. For a more practical approach stick the dua near the bathroom door, so that whoever enters the washroom doesn’t miss reading it. Enter with the left foot first, exit with the right foot. After relieving yourself use the left hand to wash yourself. All these are part of the Sunnah and are set in place for our betterment.
