What is Jannatul Firdaus? The word Jannah translates to garden, while Firdaus translates to paradise. This means that Jannatul Firdaus refers to the garden of Paradise. However, the actual meaning is much deeper than this, and humans might not fully understand the concept.
Here we will, however, try our best to explain it based on what we have learned from the Holy Prophet and his companions.
Paradise or Jannah has many different layers and the highest one or the best one is known as Jannatul Firdaus; This is where we will find Prophet Muhammad InshaAllah. Here’s a hadith on Jannatul Firdaus that beautifully explains the concept:
How to Attain Jannatul Firdaus?
We have been told numerous times through Quranic verses and authentic Hadith of ways to enter Paradise. Following are some of the ways one can strive to attain Paradise and, ideally, Jannatul Firdaus.
1 – Being Righteous
The following verse in Surah Nisa reveals that irrespective of one’s gender, if one does good deeds with the pure intention of pleasing Allah (SWT) and getting closer to Him, it will pave the way for paradise.
2- Taking Care of Orphans
The Holy Quran and the Messenger of Allah (SAW) laid great emphasis on the treatment of orphans in society. Taking care of an orphan is one of the guaranteed ways to earn Paradise and be in the company of the Messenger of Allah (SAW) in paradise.
Look around your friends and family to care for orphans. Also, one can sponsor an orphan in a war struck or poor country and be a guardian for these needy children.
3- Observing the Five Daily Salah
As evident from the above Hadith, by guarding the 5 daily prayers regularly and punctually, one can achieve Paradise. However, the intention should be only to please Almighty Allah and cleanse oneself from sins instead of showing off to others how pious one is.
4- Not Associating Partners with Allah and Other Acts of Worship
Prophet Muhammad, Peace and Blessings upon him, stated that not associating partners with Allah (shirk), praying correctly, giving charity and keeping good relations will make one enter Paradise.
5- Observing Sunnah Prayers
As mentioned above, The compulsory five daily prayers pave the way for Paradise. In addition, performing extra Salah by observing Sunnah Prayers is also a way to enter Jannatul Firdaus.
By taking out just a few minutes and performing sunnah Rakats, one can hope to go to Paradise. These additional prayers are as follows:
- 4 Rak’aat before and 2 after the Dhuhr (Midday) Prayer
- 2 after the Maghrib (Sunset Prayer)
- 2 after the Ishaa (Evening) Prayer and
- 2 before the Fajr (Dawn) Prayer
6 – Become a Seeker of Knowledge
When one strives to obtain knowledge and expand learning, it is a means through which Paradise can be obtained. As the following Hadith states:
7 – Visiting The Sick
The following Hadith states that when one visits to meet the sick with the intention of pleasing Allah (SWT), Paradise is announced for the person by the angels, along with other blessings.
8- Building and Caring for the Masjid
A mosque, also known as the Masjid, is the sacred house of Allah (SWT). By taking part in its construction physically, through management or by financial contribution, one can strive to achieve Jannatul Firdaus.
The Hadith narrated by Ibn Majah also states that whoever removes something harmful from the mosque, Allah SWT will build for him a house in Paradise. Mosque maintenance and cleanliness are also some of the ways that can lead us to Paradise.
If a mosque is tidy and well-maintained, more worshipers will feel welcome too and you will get the reward. The best practice is to develop a spirit of volunteering in the mosque and also encourage children to volunteer, for example, in the parking area, organizing books section, arranging shoes etc.
9- Working on Building Your Character
As mentioned in the following Hadith, staying away from negative behaviors will help us enter Jannah. True, it’s a struggle to stay away from arguing and lying while joking, but it has a greater reward in the Hereafter in the form of Paradise.
10 – Protecting Tongue and Private Parts
The best strategy for Muslims is to speak well or remain silent. These gems by Prophet Muhammad (Blessings and Peace upon Him) state to protect our tongue from foul language, lying and other evils. Moreover, it also advises us to protect our private parts, for example, from haram sexual intercourse (Zina) etc. These are one of the many tools through which one can enter Jannatul Firdaus.
Concluding Remarks
It is crucial to understand that only Allah SWT knows who will enter Jannatul Firdaus. The ultimate goal for a Muslim is to seek the pleasure of Allah and attain Jannatul Firdaus. For that one should remember Allah and make Dua (supplication) regularly.
